The influences of precharging and applied voltage on particle migration velocity are compared for three typical fine and ultrafine particle size categories in Fig. 3.54a. The migration velocity across the entire voltage range was improved using the precharger, with more drastic improvements for smaller particles; the migration velocity increased by 69.9, 65.7, and 34.2% for PM0.1, PM1.0, and PM2.5, respectively. In real power plants, WESPs are usually operated under saturated gas conditions with a gas temperature below 50 °C. Under such conditions, heterogeneous vapor condensation on a particle’s surface can occur. The influence of gas temperature on collection efficiency was investigated in the range of 36.7–51.4 °C; as shown in Fig. 3.54b, particle collection efficiency increased with decreasing gas temperature.
